How Do I Restart An App On My Samsung Smart TV?

Here you can get information about How Do I Restart An App On My Samsung Smart TV. Here are steps that are recommended by Samsung, and have worked for me when I have needed to restart an app. Whether you need to reset the Netflix app, or restart HBO Max, here is how you do it on a Samsung Smart TV.

Restarting or rebooting an app on a Samsung TV requires that the TV be rebooted. There are two ways to do this. With the TV turned on, hold down the power button on the remote until the TV turns off and back on, or you can unplug the TV and plug it back in after 30 seconds.

Doing one of those two steps will reboot the Samsung TV and force any and all apps to quit and be restarted once you open them again. This will usually fix when an app is frozen, but there are times when you may need to delete and reinstall an app, or you may need to reset Smart Hub. We will cover how to do those things in this post.

Cold Booting Your Samsung TV To Restart An App

It may be surprising to some people that when you hit the power button on the TV or the remote that the Samsung TV doesn’t actually turn off completely. Your Samsung TV goes into Stand-By mode when you hit the power button on your remote.

Stand-by is a low power mode that keeps the operating system booted, but turns off the screen to save power. This enables the TV to turn on really quick, which is what most users prefer. This is similar to when you put a computer into sleep mode. It retains it’s memory and everything pops back up quickly once you power it back up. Notice how all the programs are still open? This is the same idea with your Samsung TV.

Rebooting your TV completely will clear the memory and close any apps that were open. Samsung calls this a “Cold Boot”. As I mentioned earlier, there are two ways to cold boot your Samsung TV.

Methods to reboot your Samsung Smart TV

  • Turn on your Samsung TV. Once it is completely booted, hold down the power button on the remote. Your TV screen will turn off right after pushing down the power button, but continue to hold the power button until the TV turns back on.
  • Unplug the TV from its power source. Wait 20-30 seconds to allow any stored energy to dissipate, and then plug the TV back into the power source.

Either of these methods will completely reboot the TV, clear the memory, and cause all apps to be closed.

Update Your Samsung Smart TV

THere are times when an app will require the TV to be running a certain operating system version. To make sure you have the latest version installed, follow these steps.
